MARCH 2010

Want and Need |
Morning: PENNY TRUETT describes an unforgettable scene while
handing out food at the Baptist church in Maralal, Kenya.
“Greed overtook some people who grabbed and pushed,
(while) others sat in the dirt with their plastic cups and bags
and winnowed the remains in the hopes that it might be
enough to make a meal. I couldn’t see how such a little
amount could make a difference to anyone, but I suppose that
is the difference between want and need. Hunger isn’t the
only problem here. The elderly, widowed, and orphaned also
suffer along with people wasting away from HIV/AIDS. Pray
for our ministry among the Samburu people.” Southern
Baptists like Penny have been ministering to AIDS victims in
Africa since the 1980s, thanks to support from churches like
yours working together through CP. The people of Kenya
need our continued support and prayers.
Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain [did]. By this he was approved as a righteous man, because God approved his gifts, and even though he is dead, he still speaks through this.

Eskimo Villages north of the Arctic Circle |
Evening: >b>JOHN and TERRI FORRESTER are North American
missionaries serving in the Arctic of Alaska. John is a Church
Starter Strategist who works with five Eskimo villages north of
the Arctic Circle where temperatures sometime fall to 40 - 60
below zero in the winter. Our belief in and support through
the Cooperative Program (CP) help John as he works to
strengthen five churches and missions where the Eskimo people
live and also to plant new congregations. As you go through
your week, pray for John and his associates as they endure the
harsh climate and conditions and work to develop indigenous
leaders to one day take over the work in the Arctic.
STATEMENT:Abel gave because he had faith in God. Even his death signaled victory. He became an example of faith for the new Israel, the church.
Our giving demonstrates our faith and presents an example of faith for others.

Church Planting in Puerto Rico |
Morning: SBC Life Feb/Mar Issue front cover story on Luis & Lourdes Rodriguez. Email vperry@sbc.net for copy of article.
LUIS RODRIGUEZ is a Hispanic church planting
missionary and pastor of Baptist Church of Coamo in Puerto
Rico. As the only Southern Baptist church in the mostly
Catholic city of Coamo, Luis ministers to the community
through the church and through the Coamo Christian
Academy. Through preaching, praying with members, and
counseling students and parents, Luis seeks to share the Word
of God so that they will have the opportunity to choose to
follow Christ. Luis and his wife, LOURDES, appreciate your
prayers and your faithful participation through the
Cooperative Program (CP) which give them the ability to
effectively share Christ in Puerto Rico. Please include Luis and
Lourdes in your prayers this week.
Acts 3:2-6 And a man who was lame from his mother's womb was carried there and placed every day at the temple gate called Beautiful, so he could beg from those entering the temple complex. When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple complex, he asked for help. Peter, along with John, looked at him intently and said, "Look at us." So he turned to them, expecting to get something from them. But Peter said, "I have neither silver nor gold, but what I have, I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!"

Jesus Film Library |
Evening: Upon receiving evangelism/literature training with a group of
eight people from his South American church, Pastor
MANUEL CASTILLO decided to loan Arabic/Spanish
language versions of the JESUS film. At a local Arabic bakery,
the pastor and his team found a group of men interested in
borrowing the JESUS film. They gave their names and phone
numbers to Pastor Manuel so he could return the following
week to pick up the videos. With their names on a list, the
pastor went into other stores, looking for more people who
might want to borrow the videos. He met some men in one
store who definitely weren’t interested until they spotted the
names on the pastor’s list. “If they are borrowing the video,
then we want to see it, too,” they said. The Gospel is being
shared across South America, thanks to your commitment to
CP. Pray for the borrowers/viewers to become believers.
STATEMENT: That’s exciting! Imagine having the ability to help someone so dramatically. In reality, we do have such ability. When we share the
Gospel of Christ and give so that others can devote more time to witnessing, people receive the new life which replaces spiritual death.

Guayas Mestizo Team |
Morning: The GUAYAS MESTIZO TEAM writes that after seven
days of prayer and fasting, it was decided among 23 house
church believers that they should participate in an all-day
evangelistic blitz covering the entire town of Montalvo.
“Johnny,” who works with the team members, had good cause
to be overwhelmed. The blitz yielded dozens of decisions for
Christ and several requests for home Bible studies. Johnny
now leads three groups every week and trains eight believers
from these house churches to start new ones in other towns
near Montalvo. The Guayas Mestizo Team is taking advantage
of the doors God is opening with the help of your prayers and
your participation through the Cooperative Program (CP).
This week, join the team in giving praises to God for the
doors He continues to open.
Luke 24:46-48 He also said to them, "This is what is written: the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead the third day, and repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.

Baptist Collegiate Ministers |
Evening: MAT and SUSAN SHOCKNEY are serving the Lord and
you in Bloomington, Indiana, thanks to your commitment to
reaching people through the Cooperative Program (CP). As
Baptist collegiate minister at Indiana University, Mat’s vision
is to build “The Bridge,” which will connect the campus
ministry to Foot of the Cross, a local church he pastors. Since
75% of people who pray to receive Christ do so prior to
turning 21, their work is urgent and timely. Pray with them
that The Bridge will transform the university community,
building bridges for the next generation of church planters
and leaders to fulfill the Great Commission.
STATEMENT: To preach repentance and remission of sins to the entire world exceeds the ability of any one person. We must join forces to share
Christ’s love. We can reach the lost through the Cooperative Program as our church combines its resources with that of other churches.

Cooperative Program and "The Connection" |
Morning: North American missionaries JOHN and TIFFANY
MARTENS serve in Maple Ridge, one of the cities that makes
up the metro Vancouver area in Canada. Their ministry, “The
Connection,” allows them to build relationships and share
Christ with people who have no connection to God. Fun
camps engage several hundred children each year, most of
whom do not attend church. It takes an assortment of resources
to engage the unengaged. The Martens are grateful for our
faithful participation through the Cooperative Program (CP)
that empowers them to reach out to those living in Maple
Ridge. Ask God to continue to grow The Connection, and that
many will be won to Christ.
Romans 13:6-7 And for this reason you pay taxes, since the [authorities] are God's public servants, continually attending to these tasks. Pay your obligations to everyone: taxes to those you owe taxes, tolls to those you owe tolls, respect to those you owe respect, and honor to those you owe honor.

Video for Salvadoran Deaf Christians |
Evening: STAN and LYNN STEPLETON have been encouraging us
to pray for a group of Salvadoran Deaf Christians and hearing
leaders to translate key Bible stories. The translation work will
culminate in a video produced in Salvadoran sign language so
that the Gospel can be shared. Praise God that a group is
ready to begin this project! Pray for the project to proceed
quickly and without interruption. Pray that those who will
view the video will understand their need for a relationship
with Jesus. Stan and Lynn are grateful for your interest, your
prayers, and your ongoing commitment to putting love in
action through CP.
STATEMENT:Our stewardship is revealed in all areas of our lives.
Commitment to Christ leads us to pay our taxes and to support the ministries of our churches.
